Phobias are described as uncontrollable, irrational and persistent fear of a specific object, situation or activity.
They are extremely common and can start in many ways such as a traumatic event that left an ever increasing fear that the same or a similar situation may happen again, or, it may have been passed on by a parent who had a phobia themselves. However the phobia was created probably does not matter to the ‘phobic’ it is how it affects their daily life that concerns them. Each phobia is a problem but Arachnophobia (spiders) or Ophidiophobia (snakes) may not be as problematic as Agoraphobia (open spaces or crowded places) or Social Phobia (negative evaluation from others).
There can be many aspects to a phobia; ie
A flying phobia can be fear/anxiety about crashing-enclosed space – not having control etc.
It is important for the individual to be able to fully clear each of these aspects whilst in a ‘safe environment’ before testing their response in the ‘real world’. Therefore we work in a systematic way that gradually helps to de-sensitize the unconscious automatic negative response/s to the phobia by using Neuro Linguistic Programming coupled with Emotional Freedom Therapy (tapping)
The NLP and EFT therapies are so powerful and unobtrusive to the client that the anxiety response/s are either eliminated completely or brought to a level where the individual is able to lead a normal life.
